If you have not done so already, I would like to invite you to engage with me online by clicking “Like” on my Facebook page, “Follow” on my Twitter page, and “Subscribe” on my YouTube page. Through these mediums, I share news and information about what’s happening on Capitol Hill and in the FifthCongressional District, and you can share your thoughts with me. I hope you’ll take this opportunity to signup, so that we can quickly and effectively communicate with each other.
The way we receive and share information is constantly evolving. Today, online sites offer a unique opportunity for us to engage with each other in immediate and effective ways. Facebook has over 750 million active users, YouTube over 400 million, and Twitter over 100 million. Over 50% of adult Americans are now active on Facebook, up from only 8% in 2008. Unlike traditional sources of information like newspapers and television, these social networks are interactive, facilitating communication and allowing people to share their own information and opinions.
For these reasons, social networks are a great way for constituents to engage with their Members of Congress. That’s why I am hosting the second annual Member Online All-Star Competition, a friendly competition among my Democratic colleagues to encourage Members to continue to engage their online followers in creative and thoughtful ways.
As always, thank you for allowing me to share this update with you, and please continue to share your concerns and insights with me by contacting my office or connecting with me on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.
