MESSAGE FROM CONGRESSMAN STENY H. HOYER
This morning, I joined Democratic and Republican colleagues from both the House and Senate for a press conference to urge the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to put forward a big, balanced plan to reduce the deficit. I recently joined with more than 100 fellow members of the House in sending a bipartisan letter calling on the Committee to “go big,” and a bipartisan Senate letter signed by 45 Senators proposed the same.
Today’s event further demonstrates that there is a large and significant number of Democrats and Republicans in both chambers who want such a deal and are ready to give it a fair shot. We agree that this matter is urgent, and none of us want to risk the effects sequestration will bring if the Committee fails in its task. We also understand that at risk is more than just the economic impact of failure, but also the trust the American people have in their government to solve the most pressing problems we face as a nation.
I am hopeful that today’s event sent a strong message to the Committee, and that they will consider the concern we all share about deficits and report a big, bold plan to help move our nation forward on a sustainable fiscal path while also assisting our economic recovery.
As always, thank you for allowing me to share this update with you, and please continue to share your concerns and insights with me by contacting my office or connecting with me on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.
With warmest regards, I am
Sincerely yours,

Steny H. Hoyer
