Today, House Republicans brought to the Floor the Farm Dust Regulation Prevention Act, a bill based on the failed claim that deregulation will lead to job growth, which economists from both sides of the aisle have strongly disproved. More importantly, this bill does nothing to create jobs or deal with the pressing issues that confront us. Meanwhile, Democrats are focused on priorities that are set to expire at the end of the year: extending unemployment benefits for those in search of jobs, extending the payroll tax cut for middle-class families, and fixing the Medicare physician payment rate so seniors and military retirees can continue to see their doctors. Congress must move quickly to ensure these vital services and programs continue uninterrupted. I hope Republicans will work with us to ensure this is the case.
I know these issues are very important to Fifth District residents, which is why I am hosting a telephone town hall to discuss these and other matters with you on Monday, December 12 at 7:15 PM. Citizens living in Maryland's Fifth Congressional District (Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties and portions of Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties) are invited to call in and hear an update on what we are doing in Congress and will have the opportunity to ask questions. To participate in this call, dial (877) 229-8493 and enter the PIN 12897 when prompted. I look forward to talking with you on Monday evening.
As always, thank you for allowing me to share this update with you, and please continue to share your concerns and insights with me by contacting my office or connecting with me on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube.
