Yesterday was a very sad and traumatic day for the Fifth District, for our region, and for our nation after the tragic shooting at Washington Navy Yard, where many members of our community serve in military and civilian capacities.
I was deeply saddened to learn that among the victims were three residents of Southern Maryland – Sylvia Fraiser and Kenneth Bernard Proctor of Charles County and Frank Kohler of St. Mary’s County. These three hardworking individuals were among the many dedicated civilians who serve our nation and support our war fighters day in and day out. I join our entire community in reflecting on their service and expressing sincere condolences to their families.
My thoughts and prayers are with them and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence. I also join in wishing those who were injured a quick and complete recovery, and in thanking the brave law enforcement officials and first responders who worked diligently to secure the area and prevent further casualties.
I will continue to monitor the situation as the investigation continues.
