Update My Profile

On Tuesday, August 10, the House will return for a special session to consider HR 1586, the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act, which will ensure that as our children return to school in the next month, so will their teachers. This bill is projected to save 2,500 teaching jobs in Maryland that would have otherwise been cut due to state budget constraints.

The bill also includes a six-month extension (from January 1, 2011 through June 30, 2011) of enhanced federal Medicaid assistance for the states – including $273,000,000 for Maryland. These funds help states cover costs of additional Medicaid caseloads often experienced during economic downturn and recovery periods.

Last week, I was very happy to hear personally from a number of you at events throughout the District.  I met with defense contractors, small business owners, local manufacturers, students, faculty and administrators at our local colleges, and many other members of our community to continue our ongoing dialogue about the issues that matter to the people of the Fifth District.   I look forward to continuing this conversation in the weeks and months to come.
