Over the last month, the U.S. House has been working hard to make progress on the people’s business, moving ahead on the bills that fund the federal government and citizen services. Already this month we have passed legislation that makes investments in key national priorities that will help lay the foundation for America’s success in this new century. Altogether, these investments will help make our communities safer, improve services for veterans, and put our nation on a path towards energy independence.
Furthermore, we are making these investments within a budget that works to reverse years of record deficits and exploding debt and restores fiscal discipline once again to Washington. Democrats have shown and will continue to show in deed, not just word, that we are serious about fiscal responsibility. We are serious about moving forward with the people's business. And we are serious about moving this country in a new direction.
This week, House Democrats will unveil an Energy Independence package to boldly address energy independence and global warmingby rapidly expanding the production of clean, alternative fuels and increasing energy efficiency, which will help protect our environment and bring down the cost of fuel for American consumers.
